Having Your Baby at NYU

Mother-Baby Unit (Post-Partum)

Mother-Baby Unit Our Mother-Baby Unit, located on 13th floor of Tisch Hospital, has 17 semi-private rooms and four private rooms.

Once your baby is born, you will enjoy private bonding time alone with your partner or with friends and loved ones by your side. When you and your baby are ready, both of you will be transferred to the Mother-Baby Unit.

Upon arriving to the Mother Baby Unit, you and your baby will be greeted in your room by members of our Mother-Baby nursing team. One nurse will assess your baby while another nurse will make you comfortable. You will be given the opportunity to hold your baby skin to skin, which promotes bonding and is healthiest for both of you. Your baby will be bathed once his/her temperature has stabilized. Baby care will continue to be done at the bedside so we can give you and your baby the opportunity to be together for your entire hospital stay. Should he/she need additional medical assistance, we have a neonatal observation area.

Rooming-in is encouraged at NYU Langone Medical Center, both day and night. Spending time with your new baby will make it easier for you to respond to your baby’s needs. Also, mothers and babies rest better when they are close. To facilitate this, we have the same nurse taking care of you and your baby. The mother-baby nurse is available to care for both you and your newborn during your stay.

While in the hospital, take advantage of our expertise to help you with breastfeeding. Certified Lactation Consultants along with our well-trained nurses are available to help you become more confident and comfortable with breastfeeding.

Our staff strives to create a family-friendly environment in which your guests feel involved in welcoming your newest family member.

The four private rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis at the time of delivery, based on time of delivery. There is a waiting list that you can be added to at any time after delivery. If you are on the list and a room becomes available during your stay, please note that you will be responsible for an additional charge that is not covered by insurance and payment is required once the room becomes available.

Please check with Admitting at 212-263-5005 for current charges of a private room.
